No, they are not. There is no guarantee these will prevent you from getting sick. Washing: 1. Either by hand in a bin of cold water with gentle detergent. 2. OR cold cycle with similarly colored laundry. Drying: PLEASE ONLY HANG DRY. DO NOT TUMBLE DRY. Notes: Some of these masks were made from fabric that was not pre-washed before cutting so there will be a small degree of shrinkage. For small/average sized faces this should not be an issue. Masks made from fabric that was not pre-washed/shrunken are indicated as being so. I noticed that some of these satin ties I use the color will run during a wash. I have not had an issue with staining of the cotton mask fabric so long as I am washing in a bin or in the washing machine (i.e. with sufficient amount of water to dilute the runoff dye).

MAIN FACE 100% cotton from Liberty of London. BACKING: 100% cotton muslin. THREAD: I use a variety, sometimes it's all cotton, sometimes it's all polyester, sometimes it's a mix. TIES: I use synthetic satin fabric to make rouleau straps. I have found this to be the most comfortable fabric behind the ears. INSERT: Your mask will come with a non-woven synthetic fabric. You can wash these as you would the mask, but please hang dry! You can replace them with any filter fabric of your choice.

The raw materials add up to almost $7. Each mask takes me about 45 minutes to make (cutting, ironing, making all the straps, assembly!).
